Last weekend was cold and icy here in Cincinnati - perfect for an indoor car show and a sneak peek at some of the exciting new vehicle models coming out next year. I have to say, it was quite clear where the attendees were spending their time: Electric vehicles (EVs) are finally here in much greater numbers - and they are COOL.
These vehicles have zero resemblance to their boxy and, in certain cases, awkward-looking, older plug-in-electric hybrid cousins. EVs now span all body types, from sedans to SUVs, pickups to coupes and from modest utilitarian service vehicles to lighting-fast supercars. As EV technology becomes more widespread, familiar and cost-effective, global sales of electric passenger vehicles are projected to surpass 10.5 million this year, about 4 million above 2021 levels, according to BloombergNEF.
Somewhat predictably, there were large crowds gathered around the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E and the F150 Lightning.
But many also seemed to be interested in KIA’s all new EV6. This is a GREAT LOOKING SUV/crossover that is quite likely to end up in my garage, particularly given that pricing in the US will start at $33.400.
Another great-looking choice for EV customers is VW’s ID4 (MSRP $40,760). The luxury brands brought out their big guns, as well: The Porsche Taycan, BMW iX, and Audi e-Tron all were stunningly beautiful EV’s at the show.
This weekend most of us will gear up for the Super Bowl, especially here in Cincinnati where our Bengals will be playing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy versus the L.A. Rams.
